Lighthouse Foundation Receives Grant from Henry Luce Foundation to Support CARE Initiative

Chicago, IL  — Lighthouse Foundation is thrilled to announce that we have received a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to support our Coalition of Accomplices for Racial Equity (CARE) initiative.

The CARE initiative is dedicated to building and strengthening alliances between Black LGBTQ+ individuals and supportive accomplices within faith communities and beyond. CARE aims to address and combat racial inequities, promote social justice, and create inclusive spaces for all by fostering meaningful relationships and mutual understanding.

“Under Jamie Frazier’s visionary leadership, Lighthouse Foundation’s CARE initiative is building what some might see as an unlikely and surprising multidenominational coalition dedicated to furthering Black Queer liberation ‘through inspiration, collaboration, and celebration.’ We are delighted to have the opportunity to support this innovative work, which aligns with the Luce Foundation’s efforts to strengthen understanding of religious diversity, to promote more curious and civil public conversations, and to support faith-rooted initiatives that envision and build a more just and compassionate world,” says Jonathan VanAntwerpen, Program Director for Religion and Theology, Henry Luce Foundation.

"We are immensely grateful to the Henry Luce Foundation for their support," says Jamie Frazier, Executive Director of the Lighthouse Foundation. "This grant will help expand the work of our Coalition of Accomplices for Racial Equity (CARE), our multiracial multi-denominational coalition that supports Black LGBTQ+ liberation. With this grant, CARE will be able to continue to deepen congregational anti-racism practices and pursue racial justice in public discourse.”

The Henry Luce Foundation seeks to deepen knowledge and understanding to pursue a more democratic and just world. Established in 1936 by Henry R. Luce, the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Time, Inc., the Luce Foundation advances its mission by nurturing knowledge communities and institutions, fostering dialogue across divides, enriching public discourse, amplifying diverse voices, and investing in leadership development.
