Coalition of Accomplices for Racial Equity (CARE)
Join the Coalition!
Lighthouse Foundation is dedicated to intersectional justice through our Coalition of Accomplices for Racial Equity (CARE). CARE is a diverse group that includes Black LGBTQ+ individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, and faith communities. Here’s how CARE makes a difference:
Builds Community: CARE creates connections among Chicagoans from various identities and ethnicities, fostering unity and understanding across diverse groups.
Explores Faith and Spirituality: CARE delves into the intersections of spirituality and LGBTQ+ identity, creating a space for affirming discussions and spiritual exploration.
Pursues Justice: CARE prepares constituents to engage in justice initiatives, advocating for equitable funding for Black-founded and Black-led nonprofits in Illinois.
By joining CARE, you contribute to a powerful movement for racial and LGBTQ+ equity, building community, and advancing justice.

Faith Communities
CARE requires all faith communities that join our organization to codify a statement of affirmation to the LGBTQ+ community and to extend the same rights and privileges to the LGBTQ+ members as those extended to the other members. It is impossible to challenge folks in the public square when one has not first done their work at home.Individuals
CARE provides an opportunity for individuals passionate about pursuing racial justice within the LGBTQ+ community as well as beyond it. We have two sets of programming that CARE members can join. CARE has monthly meetings on second Saturdays, and these meetings are virtual. CARE will also help volunteer and serve at 3-4 programs sponsored by the Lighthouse Foundation that will occur in the City of Chicago. Through CARE, justice is sought, change is made, and friendships are built.

CARE Connects
CARE holds monthly in-person and Zoom conversations, guided by Lighthouse Foundation's educational curriculum. Topics include advocacy, safe protesting, creating affirming spiritual spaces, and intersectionality. These discussions equip individuals to stand up for their beliefs while minimizing risk, foster inclusive environments, and highlight how intersecting identities shape experiences of privilege and oppression.
