Black LGBT(Q)+ Caucus Leader
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per month
Compensation: $325 per month
The Organization
Lighthouse Foundation of Chicagoland is a Black LGBTQ+ led, multiracial social justice organization that advances justice for Black LGBTQ+ people across Chicagoland through empowerment, education, and entertainment. Since LF’s founding in July 2019, we have forged collaborations with 25 partner organizations, planned over 100+ events with 4,000+ participants, and launched the nation’s first Black Queer Equity Index (BQEI). LF is a small but rapidly growing organization which is poised for growth over the next year.
The Role
We are seeking a motivated self-starter to help grow our Black LGBT(Q)+ Caucus (BQC). BQC Leaders meet monthly for trainings (ie. public speaking, health equity, electoral engagement, etc.) and to plan public events (ie. poetry readings, mental health talks, etc.). Black LGBT(Q)+ Caucus should excel at building community through event planning and hosting, one-on-one meetings with interested individuals, and hosting/planning monthly small group meetings. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, constantly evolving workplace where last-minute pivots are required but intentional planning sets us up to make successful pivots.
This part time contract role is primarily a remote position with some in-person requirements in the Chicagoland area.
Responsibilities
Report directly to the Director of Strategy who oversees the Black LGBT(Q)+ Caucus
Attends BQC Meeting and events monthly. This breakdown includes:
Attend 6/8 BQC events yearly
Two lead
Two support
Two attend
Attend 2 LF-wide events yearly (one per half year)
And also attend:
Open BQC Meeting
1-2 BQC Leader Meetings
Quarterly Leadership Council Meetings
Necessary retreats
One BWT Session
Coordinate with Caucus Leaders, staff, and contractors on project tasks, logistics needs, timelines, and work priorities
Assist with planning and growing the caucus
Event suggestions and planning of events
Serve as the point of contact for appointed events and Caucus Members
Work with the Director of Strategy to oversee event budgets
Submit invoices and check requests on a monthly basis
Represent the LF & the BQC to external agencies (member organizations, press, funders, etc)
Qualifications
Commitment to social justice, anti-racism, and Black LGBTQ+ liberation
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Community organizing experience is a plus
Excels while multitasking, setting priorities, and working independently
Demonstrated proficiency with Google docs, Google calendar, and Zoom
High degree of flexibility; strong sense of humor; ability to work well in an evolving environment
