PHYSICAL WELLNESS

PHYSICAL WELLNESS

Caring for our bodies is a revolutionary act. For Black LGBTQ+ people, physical wellness is about more than individual health—it’s about survival, autonomy, and reclaiming the right to feel safe, strong, and whole in a world that often denies us that right.

We embed physical wellness across our programs to affirm our bodies and support long-term, holistic health. From violence prevention to access to affirming care, we create pathways for Black LGBTQ+ people to connect with services and spaces that see us fully and treat us with dignity.

Our work in this area includes:

  • Reducing Community and Social Violence – Creating safer spaces and addressing the structural conditions that put our lives and bodies at risk.

  • Long-Term Health Access – Promoting practices that support physical resilience and vitality, including movement, nutrition, and rest.

  • Sexual Health – Offering free, affirming HIV/STI testing, counseling, and prevention, including linkage to care that respects our identities and choices.

HIV Counseling, Testing & Linkage to Care (LTC)

Our HIV/LTC program provides culturally competent, community-centered services to address systemic disparities in sexual health. We offer free, confidential HIV/STI testing, risk reduction counseling, and access to prevention tools like PrEP and PEP. When care is needed, we ensure direct linkage to affirming providers and holistic social support—including housing, employment, and mental health services.

Black LGBTQ+ Caucus (BQC)

Physical wellness also includes joy, rest, and reclaiming space. BQC gatherings offer free self-care services, movement-based activities, and access to sexual health resources in affirming, culturally responsive environments. Whether through the Self-Care Recharge or Black LGBTQ+ Beach Day, BQC fosters embodied healing and community care, meeting physical wellness needs in accessible, joyful ways.

Physical wellness is not just the absence of illness—it’s about liberation. It’s about building a world where our bodies are cared for, protected, and celebrated.
